mtkclient

mtkclient makes a full backup of your phone over USB.

• Optional, but strongly recommended, even if you never install KompaktOS.
• If anything ever goes wrong, it puts your phone back as it was.
• You only do it once.

Install

Back up

1. Start the mtkclient window (mtk_gui), as its guide describes.
2. Turn off the phone and unplug it.
3. Hold Volume-Up and Volume-Down while you plug in USB. Keep holding until mtkclient shows the phone.
4. Read partition(s) tab: tick Select all partitions, click Read partition(s) and pick an empty folder.

Optional: untick userdata to save hours. It is most of the storage, it is encrypted, and installing formats it anyway.

• Keep that folder safe.
• Use nothing else in mtkclient: Erase and Flash Tools can break the phone for good.

If the phone ever stops starting, Last resort puts it back from this backup.
