Erase FRP
Even after a factory reset, setup asks for the PIN or pattern the phone had before, or setting a new PIN fails with "Screen lock was already changed".
- That is Factory Reset Protection (FRP).
- The old screen lock is kept in its own partition,
frp. A factory reset or format data does not touch it. - It only happens if the phone had a PIN or pattern before the reset.
Steps
With the phone connected by USB:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot erase frp
fastboot reboot
- No adb? Hold Power and Volume-Up and pick Fastboot Mode, then run the last two commands.
- Erasing
frponly removes the old lock. Your files and apps are not touched.
