Kernel and vendor
KompaktOS comes with its own boot and vendor images, built from Mudita's
published source with fixes on top. The update package installs them together
with the system. This page lists what they add.
What our vendor adds
vendor.img carries the e-ink driver modules and the hardware permissions, so
most of what you notice comes from here.
- Partial e-ink updates. Only the part of the screen that changed is redrawn, not the whole screen every time, so it flashes far less and the quality modes are usable day to day.
- Auto e-ink mode. Fast while the screen moves, full quality once it settles. Set it per app in the Kompakt app.
- E-ink settings that work. The Kompakt app can change the refresh mode, manual mode, temperature offset and dithering.
- A charge limit that is enforced. Charging stops where you set it.
- Fingerprint scrolling. Swipe along the sensor to scroll. See Fingerprint.
- Your own sleep screen. The picture shown while the phone sleeps can be set from the Kompakt app. See Sleep screen.
What our boot adds
boot.img is the kernel, and with it the recovery.
- Correct battery health. The design capacity is reported as it is, about 3000 mAh, so battery health reads right.
- A real charge cycle count. It shows in the Kompakt app and in Android's battery settings.
- An always-on display that lets the phone sleep. The display wakes cleanly from the always-on state, so the phone sleeps between clock updates: 3–4% overnight. See Always-on display.
- A recovery that installs KompaktOS updates. Our boot comes with LineageOS recovery, which installs a KompaktOS update from a single file, over USB or from the SD card.
Always as a pair
Our boot and vendor are built and tested together, and every update package
installs both. The vendor comes in a Global and a North American version, to
match the phone's modem; see
Editions.
To go back to MuditaOS later you need Mudita's recovery again; see Going back.
